The Best Nigerian Okra Soup I Ever Had

Ola my friend! Do you like okras? Have you ever tried okra soup? These are flashbacks to making and eating okra soup for the first time. This is the best Nigerian okra soup I ever had so far. I love making and eating soups and stews with fresh vegetables and herbs. You usually can pair these types of soups and stews with rice or garri or fufu. So delicious.

I ate the Nigerian Okra soup with a wheat tortilla. However, I plan to have fufu and/or rice with the okra soup in the future. This soup was a pleasure to make. I researched a few recipes but decided to make it my own. Stopping at a local fruit and vegetable market, I selected all the vegetables that seemed perfect for the soup and went to work.

Cooking Nigerian Okra Soup

Preparing the okra soup was an enjoyable experience. First, I cleaned and cut up all of the veggies. Cutting up the okra was fun because they were a little slimy even though they were fresh. Then it was a matter of just adding the veggies I wanted to saute to my wok first and then adding the rest of the veggies, seasonings, tomato paste and water to the wok to boil. I baked the salmon and added to the soup last. The aroma was simply delightful.

  • Boosts the Immune System (helps our body fight infections and diseases)
  • Brain Food (great for brain function and protects the brain’s neurons)
  • Speeds Ulcer Healing (so helpful when you have eaten bags and bags of Flamin Hot Cheetos like me)

Until Next Time

This Nigerian Okra Soup is one of the healthiest soups you can eat. It is healthy yet savory and filled with wonderful flavors. It is oil-free and packed with excellent proteins and vitamins. The okra in the soup provides plenty of protein independent of what the fish provides. The salmon is a nice addition to the soup and gives it a satisfying meaty flavor. Want to make the vegan version of this soup? No problem, simply remove the salmon and voila.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to trying okra soup soon? Please drop a comment below or email me. I would love to hear your feedback or stories.
