The Best Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette with a Twist

Refreshingly Spectacular Red Kale Salad w/ Black Bean & Pears

Ola my friend! This is one of the best homemade balsamic vinaigrettes in my world. I’m sure if you try it, it will be “on and popping”. This vinaigrette is a super fun way to spice up your salad. It’s also a great marinade for meat and vegetables.

So quick story. I was in the store looking at the labels of the multitude of dressings on the shelves. I was looking for a dressing that complied with my manifesto. Boom, found one and I’m ecstatic. I arrive home and try it and almost gagged. No no no! My mouth rejected it immediately but there was a remedy.

In this recipe post, I’m going to show you exactly how to make this 5 minute, 5 ingredient homemade balsamic vinaigrette with a twist. You’ll probably eat more salads just to enjoy this dressing treat. Are you ready? Let’s go!

You only need 5 ingredients to this homemade balsamic vinaigrette / dressing.

Bragg’s Organic Vinaigrette Dressing & Marinade: this is the base of the vinaigrette. It is entirely too strong for me to eat by itself. It is vinegary, sour / tangy, strong and unpleasant to my liking. What did I expect, I guess. But when I read the ingredients, I am like these ingredients are stellar. Low sodium and no added sugar. All the ingredients are organic and can be pronounced. Just clean. Just have to doctor it up.

Coconut Palm Sugar: an excellent balance of sweetness. Simple but powerful role.

Vegan/Plant Butter: this is akin to added olive oil. In fact, the Country Crock brand I love is olive oil based.

Balsamic Vinegar: this enforces the sweetness with more sweetness but with fruity notes that mellows all the loud apple cider vinegar notes. I guess it brings out more the apple in the apple cider vinegar. Either way this is what causes all the chaos in my mouth to cease with that hard apple cider vinegar.

Lemon Pepper: here’s the twist. Add some of this and you get a badge for exploring, experimenting and getting it right. Not a lot is needed but I believe the lemon elevates this dressing / vinaigrette. It boosts all the flavors. Which makes sense for lemon.

Step 1

Gather all ingredients, a small bowl, a mixing spoon, and measuring spoons.

Step 2

Add the Bragg’s organic vinaigrette, balsamic vinegar, coconut palm sugar, plant butter, and lemon pepper in a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave for about 60 seconds. Mix well and enjoy!

Equipment

  • a small bowl
  • a mixing spoon
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • Bragg’s Organic Vinaigrette Dressing & Marinade – 1 tbsp
  • Coconut Palm Sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Vegan/Plant Butter – 2 tsp
  • Balsamic Vinegar – 2 tsp
  • Lemon Pepper – ¼ tsp

Instructions

  • Gather all ingredients, a small bowl, a mixing spoon, and measuring spoons.
  • Add the Bragg’s organic vinaigrette, balsamic vinegar, coconut palm sugar, plant butter, and lemon pepper in a small microwave safe bowl.
  • Microwave for about 60 seconds.
  • Allow the dressing glaze to cool and then drizzle lightly on top of salad.
  • Mix well and enjoy!

Notes

  • Replace coconut sugar with honey to make the non-vegan version of this vinaigrette.
  • I prefer the microwave for heating because I can better control how warm the dressing gets and how fast.
  • The goal is to warm the dressing just enough for the ingredients to mix well. You do not want boiling hot dressing in this case.
  • I believe a little goes a long way but enjoy yourselves. For some people this will be two servings and others one.
