Amazing Fair Favs at the State Fair of Texas Day #8

Ola my friend! As you may know, this is technically the last week of the 2023 State Fair of Texas. The fair ends Sunday October 22, 2023. Here’s my recap of visiting the 8th day of the fair. Special thanks to my co-workers for joining me on this delicious adventure and helping me navigate the “Texan fair terrain”!

State Fair of Texas Day #8 Recap: Fair Favs

Purpose: My goal for this visit was to try some of the fair favs.

Duration: Friday October 6th between 12PM and 2PM

Total Tickets Purchased: 30

Total Tickets Left: 4

Fair Food #1: Brisket Sandwich

Food Vendor: Smokey John’s Bar-B-Que & Home Cooking

Total Tickets Used: 16

My Review: The bun was soft but held up well. the brisket was delicious. I was craving brisket so chose this over the turkey leg but wanted to try to turkey leg. I hope to try before the fair ends but 20 tickets cough dollars for a turkey leg cough cough….”just enjoy the experience”. I can enjoy the experience at home with a whole turkey for $20. But I can’t say too much after spending 16 on a brisket sandwich. I know the vendors love this time of the year … whew I can imagine. Increase! haha. Maybe I will be at the fair next year selling healthier options like smoothies and frozen fruit treats. Just a thought. It will be the best value at the fair next year.

The brisket was moist and tender, bbq sauce was on point, pickles and jalapeno peppers were THE perfect toppings for a brisket sandwich. My goodness. It hit the spot for a quick lunch break and wanted something reliable at the state fair. I don’t believe Texas is known for their turkey legs but I do know that Texas is known for the brisket. They didn’t disappoint. It was filling. I could have been bigger. I demolished the sandwich and surprised myself. It was a great appetizer. The smokey flavor and aroma was delightful. The meat was seasoned pretty well too.

My rating: 4/5

Fair Food #2: Hamburger Pizza

Food Vendor: Hand Tossed Pizza by the Giant Slice

Total Tickets Used: 10

My Review: I chose to try the pizza because one of my coworkers love the pizza at the fair and gets it every year. It is her fair fav. Actually, it seems to be one of the top local fair favs from what I hear. One slice hit the spot. I was over it by the second slice. The crust was crunchy, garlic salty, really good. the cheese was thick, gooey, and plentiful. The hamburger meat was well seasoned. Im like “ok ok I can see why they rave about the pizza” … I ate both slices. It wasn’t as greasy as I expected. It was hot out of the oven and tasted fresh. I noted there was a long line and wait for the pizza so that is interesting. You can tell a fair fav by the long lines and the wait time. I only waited about 10 minutes for my pizza.

My Rating: 3.9/5

Other Fair Favs

Here are the fair favs my coworkers got: turkey leg, pizza, fried cheesecake, and the funnel cake. I tried a teeny piece of the funnel cake and tasted like a fluffy inflated pancake. It was very good. I wanted some maple syrup. I don’t think I realized how sweet it was already.
