How to Make Crunchy & Juicy Homemade Pickles

Ola my friend! Homemade pickles are so easy and quick to make. Your version may turn out better than the pickles at the store. Sometimes the store-brought pickles are too salty or too sweet or even too pricey. Making homemade pickles immediately came to mind while looking at a sale sign for pickling cucumbers. It was undebatable. I left the store that day with my precious pickling cucumbers anticipating making me a few jars of pickles.

After a brief scan of the internet, I realized that I could follow my heart on this one. Using vinegar for the base, the seasonings were per your better judgement. One of my brothers who is known for being a picky eater personally requested my pickles for his pita wrap on several and separate occasions. So, you should be confident that your homemade pickles will turn out excellent. Here’s some of my suggestions.

Homemade Pickles Ingredients & Prep

  • Pickling Cucumbers
  • White Vinegar / Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Mustard Powder
  • Ground White Pepper
  • Crushed Chili / Red Pepper Flakes
  • Minced Garlic
  • Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 100% Maple Syrup
  • Mason jars
  • Water
  1. Wash / rinse pickling cucumbers well.
  2. Cut up pickles into slices the length wise (spears) and/or width wise (circles)
  3. Place pickles slices in mason jars
  4. Pour vinegar into mason jars about three quarters full
  5. Add 1 tsp of Himalayan Pink Salt, 2 tsp of minced garlic, and 1 tsp of maple syrup
  6. Add dashes of mustard powder, ground white pepper and crushed chili / red pepper flakes
  7. Fill rest of the jar with water, screw lid and shake well.
  8. Refrigerate for at least one week. However, the longer the pickles sit, the better.

Notes

  1. Feel free to substitute the minced garlic with garlic powder
  2. Regular cucumbers are also fine if you do not have the pickling cucumbers which are usually shorter and fatter.
  3. Most people who ate my homemade pickles preferred the white vinegar base over the apple cider vinegar ones.
  4. The measurement recommendations were based on the smaller jars displayed in the gallery below. Feel free to add or adjust per your preferences.
