7-Day Raw Vegan Food Challenge | And Here’s What Happened

Ola my friend! My vegan season started Sunday, January 21, 2024. The first 7 days, I went raw vegan where I ate live foods only. Yes, SEVEN days of only raw fruits and vegetables. It was a huge success! It was a challenge but I did it! So what did I eat and drink? What were some challenges I faced? Did I notice any changes in my body, emotions, and attitude? Read more to find out all the details.

First, what is the raw vegan food diet exactly? The raw vegan food diet is eating uncooked fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts (dried fruit), and sprouted grains. So no meat, diary, processed foods, cooked foods, foods from a can, microwaved food, packaged food (outside of raw seeds and nuts), etc. Fruits and vegetables only literally. Stay tuned for a future post covering all the foods you get to eat and all foods to avoid when on your raw vegan food diet.

It was a challenge but I did it!

What Did I Eat and Drink?

Ok, I will be transparent. I did not meal prep like I wanted to for this raw vegan week. I realized I was never going to be ready lol. Meal prepping a salad was what I decided to do and eat that week. So the day of (Sunday), I started mind-storming what I wanted to eat in the salad.

Getting and staying full was my main focus so the salad ended up being themeless, big, and lasting me from Sunday until Thursday. Friday, I was all “salad out” to be honest so I just ate fruit and sunflower seeds. Saturday, I was still “all salad out and I just ate fruit, dates, and peanuts. Please note, Friday and Saturday I wasn’t hungry really. I didn’t have an appetite for vegetables. I only had an appetite for fruit and dried fruit. I thought that was interesting.

Incredible Impacts and Observations

Body

  • My energy was average. Nothing out of the ordinary for me. I didn’t feel a surge of energy like I expected.
  • I noticed that I ran only 2.6 total miles that week which is the lowest number of miles I’ve run in a week in a long time. However, my pace for 1.3 mile runs was faster than normal. I felt great running. I didn’t experience any discomfort like getting a stitch in side.
  • My appetite was slashed in half. My stomach definitely shrunk. I was getting full faster and staying full for longer.
  • Midweek I had one of the best digestive releases ever (read between the lines). One of the greatest feelings!
  • A had a big pimple on my right jaw around day 6. It was painful. It was too distracting to leave it alone so I tried pinching it. It burst a little. I decided to leave it alone after that and it went away over night.
  • My stomach was FLAT (as flat as the line underneath the word flat lol)
  • My skin was glowing and mostly clear (except for the pimple mentioned earlier)

Mind

  • “Whew, I’m glad this is only 7 days!” crossed my mind several times. Lol
  • My mind was more relaxed. Ideas kept flowing to my mind so this is a type of mental clarity.
  • I was hopeful and positive the entire week. I felt optimistic, daring, and confident.

Challenges

  • Eating raw vegan is more challenging then what I thought. I can only eat so many raw vegetables (without a warm piece of pita bread at least). But I can eat all the fruit possible, no problem.
  • Figuring out what to eat was easy but difficult. Easy because I enjoy a good salad but what else can I enjoy? When I researched some ideas, what I saw either didn’t appeal to me or I didn’t want to meal prep it. I will continue to research and compile a good list for when I do this 7-day raw vegan challenge again.
  • My new meal prep containers and lunchbox were ordered by then but had not arrived yet so I was uninspired with my plastic containers but made the best of the situation.
